Space: The Key To Inclusive Early Warning and Action

Here at Tomorrow.io.org, we are 100% focused on enabling better weather forecasts for EVERYONE, which is why today is such a special day. Our founding tech partner, Tomorrow.io, just announced via their blog a new initiative called Project Space Tomorrow, which entails literally going to space!

From the press release written today, the project can best be summarized as follows:

Today Tomorrow.io, the world’s leading weather intelligence platform is excited to announce Operation Tomorrow Space. To improve global forecasting technology and capabilities, Tomorrow.io has designed proprietary radar-equipped satellites and will begin launching dozens into space over the coming years. Known for pioneering a number of weather technology advancements in recent years, Tomorrow.io’s radar-equipped small-satellites constellation represents a first in the history of the weather industry.

www.tomorrow.io’s space technology is a key missing piece in inclusive early warning and action systems and will enable us to close the global weather gap once and for all. This tech will be particularly game-changing in developing regions that are classically underserved by traditional weather prediction technologies and yet most severely at risk of weather and climate events.

With full access to Tomorrow.io’s satellite constellation, Tomorrow.io.org will have an even greater capability to help developing nations predict the weather in advance, communicate guidance, and make life and property-saving preparations ahead of time.

Georgina is the co-founder and Executive Director of TomorrowNow.org - a global non profit leveraging transformative philanthropy to connect next generation weather and climate technologies with communities in need. Prior to TomorrowNow.org, Georgina spent a decade at MIT where she was a senior lecturer and led global initiatives designed to bridge technology and social impact. Georgina has worked on many innovation initiatives for organisations including: the MIT Legatum Center, MIT REAP, the XPRIZE Foundation, the World Bank, USA Dept of Energy, MIT, Harvard and Oxford University. Georgina is mother of two, passionate about empowering the next generation of STEM leaders, with a focus on women and youth, and is an active member of her local community. She acts as trustee and advisory board member for several charities (The Darwin Centre, Mama Foundation, FOSPs) and is a local Parish Councillor. She read Material Science at Trinity College Oxford and Technology and Policy at MIT.
