Africa – TomorrowNow.org was honored to be featured in a groundbreaking documentary produced by The Economist alongside Bill Gates and our weather tech partner Tomorrow.io.

While highlighting the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s commitment to invest in climate adaptation solutions to benefit last-mile communities, Bill Gates (the foundation’s co-chair) asserted that, “The biggest and most cost-effective climate adaptation effort that we are going to do to help smallholder farmers adapt to climate change is to provide access to weather data.”

The documentary showcased TomorrowNow’s mission to make weather intelligence accessible and useful for communities most impacted by climate change today by celebrating our country-level partnership in Kenya as well as philanthropic support from Gates Foundation.

Our partnership with Tomorrow.io is about harnessing the power of private sector-led weather tech and tools focused on improving the accuracy and usefulness of weather data in the data sparse African continent that’s characterized by insufficient ground observation infrastructure.

Weather intelligence is the missing link to local climate adaptation and prosperity. By addressing key system-level gaps, we can ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable communities on our planet, has the weather intelligence they need to adapt and thrive in a changing climate.

This is why we have an audacious 2030 commitment to unlock and sustain the transformative potential of next-generation weather intelligence for 100 million people in Africa at risk of climate change and create $7billion+ in community-level value.

TomorrowNow continues to bolster climate adaptation by unlocking the power of next generation weather and climate solutions enabled by partnerships and transformative philanthropy – including an additional $5 million grant funding we received recently to improve quality and access to weather intelligence for farmer-facing organizations and help 20 million African farmers adapt to climate change by 2027.
