TomorrowNow Collaborates with ICA-Africa to Host Webinar About Weather Data Access by Smallholder Farmers for Local Climate Adaptation

TomorrowNow and the International Cooperative Alliance-Africa hosted a webinar to sensitize agricultural cooperatives in Africa on the pivotal role of weather intelligence, digital climate advisory, and capacity development services.

Africa – TomorrowNow.org in collaboration with the International Cooperative Alliance-Africa (ICA-Africa) hosted a one-hour webinar on 29th February 2024, from 1400 HRS EAT to sensitize agricultural cooperatives in Africa on the pivotal role weather intelligence, digital climate advisory and capacity development services can do to help farmer Cooperatives to adapt and thrive.

The Value of Digital Climate Advisory Services (DCAS)

The TomorrowNow.org team took the opportunity to share progress that we have made linking private sector-led weather technology and services to communities most impacted by climate change today.

Our Agriculture Climatologist, John Corbett, provided an outline of TomorrowNow.org’s initiative that’s transforming weather forecasts into agronomic advisories that are specific to the growth stage of each farmer’s crop.

To achieve scale and impact, our partnership with KALRO has demonstrated value as reflected in studies that have shown that farmers who receive localized weather intelligence have reported an increase in their productivity and income by up to 15%.

This incremental value is a positive addition to current efforts to help smallholder farmers stay ahead of the negative effects of climate change while protecting their livelihoods

Through our capstone initiatives, we are ensuring access to weather and climate solutions by leveraging transformative philanthropy to build and sustain partnerships with public and private sector institutions.

Prior to TomorrowNow.org, Georgina spent a decade at MIT where she was a senior lecturer and led global initiatives designed to bridge technology and social impact. Georgina has worked on many innovation initiatives for organisations including: the MIT Legatum Center, MIT REAP, the XPRIZE Foundation, the World Bank, USA Dept of Energy, MIT, Harvard and Oxford University. Georgina is mother of two, passionate about empowering the next generation of STEM leaders, with a focus on women and youth, and is an active member of her local community. She acts as trustee and advisory board member for several charities (The Darwin Centre, Mama Foundation, FOSPs) and is a local Parish Councillor. She read Material Science at Trinity College Oxford and Technology and Policy at MIT.
